Marcus Kleveland: A slice of a snowboarding life

Portrait Of A Young Snowboarder - Marcus Kleveland
Norway is to pro snowboarders what Japan is to sushi, and Scotland is to whisky: sure, other countries produce them, but not in the same quantity or quality. Which is a mixed blessing if you’re a snowboarder. The level is so high, that on one hand it pushes you to be the best rider you can be. But, on the other, it’s insanely hard to get noticed – some of the best snowboarders in the world are unknown, unsponsored Norwegians.
In Marcus Kleveland’s case, getting noticed wasn’t a problem when, at the age of 13, he became the youngest rider ever to land a Triple Cork. In a sport constantly searching for the next big thing, the spotlight was shining bright on Marcus, but would it last?
In this atmospheric short film, filmmaker Pirmin Juffinger picks up the story two years on, to find out how this smiling, quietly spoken kid from northern Norway is progressing, both as a rider and a person.
Pretty good, it turns out. Living next to his local ski hill, riding all the time, relatively sheltered from the outside world, Marcus has the same air of innocence he had at 13. As a rider, he is focused on refining and perfecting his skills, and his goal is to win the Olympics. As a person, his goal is simple: “To be myself, not anybody else. Just be true to this.”

It starts off with a group trip to Austria; then dives right into last season’s contests with Kelly and Chloe. It’s a look at what drives us, from stomping runs at the Burton US Open to making pow turns in the Whistler backcountry with Kimmy Fasani. We live to be on snow, practicing, progressing, and—most of all—doing what we love.

CAPITA: D.O.A 2 STAY BAD ASS UK TOUR - EPISODE 1 WITH SCOTT STEVENS, BRANDON COCARD, PHIL JACQUES AND DUSTIN CRAVEN

Watch what the Capita team got up to when they jumped over the pond to the UK for a couple of weeks. Scott Stevens, Brandon Cocard, Phil Jacques and Dustin Craven stomping tricks in domes and on dryslope!
The UK has a thriving snowboard scene despite it’s distinct lack of proper mountains (ok, there are some decent ones up in Scotland to be fair), so to take pro riders, some of whom had never ridden anything other than real snow, and put them onto what is essentially a giant toothbrush, is always going to be an eye-opener.
After hitting up Tamworth Snowdome, Scott Stevens, Brandon Cocard, Phil Jacques and Dustin Craven had a signing session at TSA before hitting up Bearsden dryslope in Scotland.
It’s always unusual when you take professional riders and drop them into unfamiliar spots and situations, but it looks like the guys handled it just fine, with all four riders looking surprisingly comfortable on what would have felt like a pretty alien snow surface.
Stay tuned for part 2 of the tour video dropping soon!
